In my last blog post, I talked about my travel playlist being the soundtrack to the rom-com that plays out in my head when I’m on my way to a new place. My favorite rom-coms have a few different things in common: 1. Banger soundtracks, 2. Talented women, and 3. Absolutely iconic fashion.
I don’t know about you guys, but half the fun of planning a trip for me is planning my outfits. Before going to Italy, I pictured walking through the streets of Rome in light, airy dresses, and lounging in Positano wearing the bikinis of my dreams. I wanted my Italian wardrobe to have a mix of a fun, modern edginess and the classic, laid back European style. A good outfit is powerful, and I’m in the business of sharing power, so I’ve rounded up some of my favorite brands, looks, and tips for you to create the outfits of your dreams, too.

ITALIAN SUMMER STYLE FAVORITES:
  1. POV: It’s your first day in Rome. You’re sitting at a café in your Réalisation Par dress, sipping a cappuccino, next to a colorful fruit stand. You’re glowing, the hot Italian sun making you look absolutely radiant. You go to the stand to pick up an orange, and when you look up, you make eye contact with your romantic comedy’s love interest. They’re walking through the plaza. You smile, they smile, but you realize the time and have to get back to meet your friends before you leave for Positano (if it’s meant to be, they’ll make a reappearance).

2. Our story needs some ‘it girl’ swimwear. One brand I love is Bamba Swim. Their 80’s inspired swimwear makes me feel really confident in my body, with vintage inspired patterns, silhouettes, and palettes. I felt so good in both of these pieces, and when you feel good, you look good.

I also love TJ swim for their simple, classic colors and flattering cuts. She’s cute, she’s effortless, she’s lounging in the Mediterranean Sea.

Lastly, Dippin’ Daisy’s make fun and flirty cuts with adorable prints like this plaid one I am obsessed with. Any of these bikinis are the perfect look for serendipitously running into your love interest from the cafe.

3. You really can’t go wrong with blue jeans. That’s why in the next scene, we’ve got our go-to vintage 501 Levi’s for a day riding around the city on a vespa. Levi’s are the best because they’re casual, but still elevated. You can dress them up or down, and they last way longer than any other pair of jeans I own. You can pair them with a plain white tee for a classic look, or a breezy blouse from With Jéan and some heels from Paloma Wool for an edgier, model-off duty kinda vibe.

4. Italy is full of art, culture, and the best food. That’s why whether we’re touring the Roman Forum or stuffing our faces with the BEST pasta we’ve ever eaten, we’re doing it with Alo. Alo has the softest, most comfortable activewear that will take you from a day of sightseeing straight to the gelato shop to stuff your face. The fabrics are breathable, stretchy, and come in such cute colors, so you can look good and feel good.

5. Okay, we’ve reached the infamous look. Every 90’s rom com has a signature iconic look that gets recreated and generally worshipped across pop culture. In Great Expectations, it’s Gwenyth Paltrow’s all-green Donna Karen cardigan and skirt. In Clueless it was Alicia Silverstone’s yellow suit. In our romantic comedy, it’s going to be Rat and Boa’s Cecilia dress in bright, vibrant red. I love this dress because it has so much movement to it with the ruffles, and the silhouette and color are really flattering! If you’re looking for a dress that will make you feel like a supermodel with a perfect vacation tan, this is the dress for you.
