Happy Giving Tuesday! For those of you who may not know, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving is Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity around the world. I thought today would be a perfect day to announce that I am going to be giving away $10,000 in the month of December.
The holidays in my family have always been extra special. When I was little, my mom and dad would go above and beyond to make them fun for my siblings and me – between long car rides to see lit-up neighborhoods with hot cocoa in hand, to Elf on the Shelf shenanigans, to buying, wrapping and donating boxes of toys and presents for families in need. We grew up volunteering in our community – from cooking and serving meals, to painting houses, to helping sort clothes at a local thrift store. For many years, my parents asked each of us four kids to pick one charity each to donate to (the humane society is still one of my favorites). The power of serving others has been ingrained in us since we were little. As I’ve gotten older, that holiday spirit is still very much inside of me and the holidays have become special for a different reason. It’s a period at the end of each year when everything slows down, and in this moment of rest we’re able to really reflect on how the year has gone. Including how much we have served others.
This year has been really hard. At one point, I wanted to stop creating all together and fade into the background. The thing that pushed me to keep creating for myself was the encouragement I received from the community of people online who never stopped supporting me. If you were one of those people, thank you. Your gift to me was priceless. And to give back, I want to do something to say thank you, and I appreciate you.
I receive emails and DMs every day asking for financial help. I know times are tough for a lot of people. I wish I could help everyone who reached out to me…trust me, I want to. I wanted to do something to show just how grateful I am to my community so I’ll be giving $500 to 20 people through the month of December for a total of $10,000.
One platform I was nervous about trying out this year was YouTube. I really wanted to get into longer form content and share more of myself and my life with you guys, but I was scared about how people might respond. Now, after receiving so much support from my community on YouTube, it’s my goal to grow even more and post consistently there through 2022.
I know that this experience would not be what it has been if it weren’t for all of the amazing people who subscribed to my YouTube channel, sent comments and messages of support, and cheered me on while I started something new.
